Sustainability in the Tree Industry | Arborcraft Tree Services

While we specialise in maintaining, trimming, and removing trees, we know how important these biological titans are to our ecosystem. That’s why it’s important to us at Arborcraft Tree Services that we do our due diligence and repurpose or recycle any tree waste we remove from site.

Methane is one of the biggest contributors to global warming, and one of the biggest contributors to this is landfill. If you throw your tree waste into landfill, it will start decomposing as it would on a compost pile. However, as it gets pushed under mounds of other waste and starved of oxygen, it will start releasing methane. It’s vital to us that we do our bit to recycle, repurpose, and compost what we can.

Mulch

Once we’ve trimmed or removed your tree and fed it through our grinder, we’re left with coarse, biodegradable mulch. This goes onto our facility in Clayton South, where we assess its quality and whether it can be repurposed.

If the mulch is bad quality - for instance, if we’ve shredded a rotting tree - we’ll throw it onto our compost heap. However, if we’re able to, we’ll give your tree a new life as nutrient-rich, biodegradable mulch for our commercial clients.

This process means we can send as little mulch to landfill as possible, and we can return the tree’s nutrients to the soil.

Milling Timber

We’re proud to have the biggest portable mill in Australia, and we’re happy to use your felled tree to produce timber for any project. You can either bring your tree to our facility and we’ll take care of the rest, or we’ll come straight to you. We can also dry out your timber for you if you don’t have space to do so in your backyard.

Whether you need 10-inch x 10-inch sleepers or fence palings, we can repurpose your tree into materials for your next garden project.

If you’re particularly sentimental about an old tree in your garden, this can be a fantastic way to ensure it lives on as part of your family.

Firewood in Melbourne

Not every tree can be milled down into timber, so we use those trees for firewood. Firewood sourced in this way is a brilliantly sustainable source of fuel, as we source all of our trees from backyards, gardens, and commercial sites - never from forest logging. Of course, you’re more than welcome to keep the firewood we produce from your tree when we cut it down, or we’re happy to take it away if you don’t have any use for it.

If you’re looking for firewood in Melbourne, you can’t get more sustainable than the firewood from Arborcraft Tree Services.

As Arborists, we Take our Role in Sustainability Seriously

Trees are vital parts of our ecosystem, and we know how important it is to maintain wildlife habitats and protect our forests. Unfortunately, sometimes trees have to be removed for the good of their health or the properties around them. When that happens, we ensure we do what we can to protect the environment too.

Transplanting trees seem like an uncomplicated job, but the fact is many of them could die if the work is done incorrectly. Exposing roots to the air is not a pleasant experience for trees, and not all species survive the ordeal. However, if your landscape design calls the need to transfer a tree to a new location, you are likely to be successful if you know the proper methods.

Plants cannot show the same signs of sickness as animals and humans. They can't whine about body pains to let you know. So how can we tell when a tree is unwell When a tree is sick, it might develop sores on its bark or lean more to one side. Another sign is dead stems or branches that fall off the tree. If any of these symptoms occur, the tree you're looking at is possibly sick.

Pruning for tree health focuses on cutting off dead, diseased, and dying branches and branches that rub together. Pruning can also be used to nurture trees to develop a strong structure and lessen the likelihood of damage during harsh weather. Pruning for form can be incredibly essential on open-grown trees that do very little self-pruning.

The soil supports most living organisms, being the top source of their mineral nutrients. Good soil management guarantees that mineral elements do not become toxic or deficient to crops, plants, and trees. Soil management is essential to trees, environmental sustainability, productivity, and human health, so It’s crucial to know what’s happening beneath the ground. Cultivating the right soil type will make trees grow and live longer, even in urban locations with less room for them to thrive.
